Richard must be joking. Enough with the love stuff! lol.

Christianity is all about love, love, love and some more love on top of a stack of love. And the roots of the very wrongness that we see today in the church and in christianity is legalism and the lack of love.

Good response Josh Z

The reason for all the commands was to give us a guide a rule a way a path to follow. It is designed to demonstrate the way to intimacy with the Most High. Then, when we COULD NOT OBEY, Yeshua Mashiach died for us. He turned us from being enemies of G-d to children of G-d whom He loves and chastens as Earthly Father's chasten their wayward sons and daughters. This is the love He has for us, that He died that we might no longer be enemies doomed to eternal death, but sons and daughters. So then the commandments, the mitzvah of G-d, is like the rules my own Father gave me to show his love for me. To teach me the way to be a man. In so far greater a manner did our Heavenly Father, Abba, give us the law to instruct us in righteousness.

It seems like JC is getting attacked by the Pharisees yet again. "If you keep talking like this, you're going to get yourself killed." I guess not much has changed in 2000 years. Do you people realize that this is Scripture? This 'hippy rhetoric' is the inspired Word of God! Thanks JC for preaching the truth. May we actually try to learn from your words.

This is IN the Gospel! See the book of Matthew. The lesson is that whatever you do for others, you are doing for God. Whatever you are not doing for others you are not doing for God. Just because you don't do something for others does not mean you're going to hell. Now, for the "away from me" part, I understand this to mean that if your lifestyle is one where you don't ever do anything for anyone else, that is, you don't care for anyone, then Jesus may not really live in your heart, that is, you are an unbeliever. Because, your faith, or lack of, is reflected by your lifestyle. But "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," so if you don't help others, it *doesn't automatically* decide your fate.

How right you are! Jesus did talk like that and he did get killed! The point is that the man put money before God. First, Jesus asked him if he kept the Commandments to which the man responded yes. That was the big thing to Jews in those days--Old Testament law. But we know that no one is perfect and no one can keep the Commandments. Next Jesus told the man to give up what he had to follow him. To truely follow Jesus requires sacrifices sometimes. It might even require you to give up whatever you hold dear--possessions or maybe even family. That's the extreme of course.

What are you talking about??? Christianity is ALL ABOUT LOVE!!! Yes, there are rules, but following rules alone won't get you to Heaven. That's not even Biblical. What is the gospel message? "For God so loved the world that he sent is one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not parish but have eternal life." God loves us. He made it possible through Jesus' death for us to have eternal life. Now, God has some rules and guidlines. If we really love God and follow him, then we will want to obey those rules. It's like loving your father. If you really love him, you're more likely to obey him.

My understanding is "Love your neighbor as yourself" even if your neighbor is your enemy. What this means is that you care about him/her/them and don't wish harm to come to them. It's an attitude thing. Will they change? Probably not, but maybe. But either way, God will bless you for what you did. My understand of "neighbor" is EVERYONE, and I refer to the parable of the Good Samaritan. It crosses national or racial boundaries. So, according to this teaching, we ought to love those trying to kill us, even other countries. No one said it was an easy teaching.
