The Least of These…

Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. For I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
But depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.  For whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.

This is works-based salvation at its most insidious. I understand that caring for poor people and whatnot is important, but it isn’t essential. And for you to link it to one’s salvation is reprehensible. You’re leading people astray with a gospel that is akin to that of the Judaizers!

Every Bible believing Christian knows that those sent to the eternal fire are those who haven’t confessed Jesus with their mouth and believed in him with their hearts. Feeding the hungry is all well and good but if you haven’t been born again, you will not be saved. I don’t know who this guy is but he’s not the Jesus I know.

Jesus says it right there.. If you believe in him you won’t be hungy or thirsty. Those poor, homeless and starving people just need to have more faith.

This is IN the Gospel! See the book of Matthew. The lesson is that whatever you do for others, you are doing for God. Whatever you are not doing for others you are not doing for God. Just because you don’t do something for others does not mean you’re going to hell. Now, for the “away from me” part, I understand this to mean that if your lifestyle is one where you don’t ever do anything for anyone else, that is, you don’t care for anyone, then Jesus may not really live in your heart, that is, you are an unbeliever. Because, your faith, or lack of, is reflected by your lifestyle. But “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” so if you don’t help others, it *doesn’t automatically* decide your fate.
